Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about playing Carve the Fate. For a full walkthrough, see how to play.

Gameplay

Is Carve the Fate free?

Yes. The game is free to play in your browser. The web version is supported by Google AdSense advertising; there are no purchases in the game.

What happens when I die?

A run ends when your HP reaches zero and cannot be resumed — death is permanent. What you unlocked along the way (new dice, relics, rituals, bloodlines and achievements) carries into your next run.

Why can I only play one ritual per turn?

That is the core rule of combat: roll, lock, reroll, then commit to one ritual. The Skald bloodline breaks the rule and can play several small rituals in a turn.

What is the Daily Descent?

A single shared run each day: everyone gets the same seed and bloodline, and you get 1 attempt. Once it is spent, the card shows how it went.

How do I unlock the Skald and the hidden dice, relics and rituals?

Unlocks are earned by playing: winning a run unlocks the Skald, and individual items have their own conditions, such as winning as a particular bloodline or banking a lot of gold in one run. The unlock requirement is shown on the item in the game guide.

Controls

Does the game support a keyboard or controller?

No. It is played entirely by tapping or clicking. It is designed for touch first and works with a mouse on desktop.

What is the difference between the two combat styles?

"Lock, then strike" lets you lock the exact dice you want to spend and then play the ritual they form. "Strike, then choose" lists every ritual your current roll can make and spends the matching dice for you. Switch any time in Settings.

Platforms and installing

What can I play it on?

Any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. It is designed portrait-first, so on a desktop it appears in a phone-shaped frame.

Can I install it like an app?

Yes. It is a Progressive Web App. In Chrome or Edge, use the install icon in the address bar. On iPhone or iPad, open the Share menu in Safari and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android, use the browser menu and choose Install app.

Does it work offline?

After the game has loaded once, your browser keeps its files, so it can usually be played offline. Anything that needs the internet — Zonto sign-in, cloud saves, daily-run reporting and PvP duels — waits until you are back online.

Saving and progress

How does saving work?

Your current run saves automatically in your browser, and Continue on the title screen resumes it. Settings, run history and unlocks are stored in the same place.

I lost my progress. What happened?

Progress lives in your browser's local storage, so clearing site data, using a private window, or switching browsers or devices starts fresh. Signing in with a free Zonto account syncs progress across devices.

Do I need an account?

No. Signing in with Zonto is optional and the game plays identically without it.

Performance and troubleshooting

The game is slow or stuttering. What can I do?

Close other tabs, then open Settings and set motion to "Always still" or lower the combat speed. This removes most animation work and makes combat quicker on older phones.

The game will not load or looks out of date.

Reload the page. When a new version is released the game shows a prompt to reload, and a normal refresh picks it up. If it still misbehaves, clear the site's data for this website in your browser settings — note this also clears local saves.

I found a bug. How do I report it?

Email info@nikorag.co.uk with your device, browser and what happened. If it happened during a run, include the seed shown on the run-end screen.

Privacy

What data does the game collect?

The game stores settings, saves and run history on your own device. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you sign in with Zonto. The web version also serves Google AdSense ads, which may use cookies. The privacy policy has the full detail.
